Abstract:
Family resilience refers to the ability to “withstand and rebound from disruptive life challenges, strengthened and more resourceful (Walsh, 2003).” Through an occupational balance and family systems lens, the purpose of this phenomenological study is to understand the effects of occupational therapy on resilience in families with a child with a disability diagnosis. Specific research questions will explore how OT intervention impacts a family’s functioning, what parents perceive about their role in their own resilience, and what role OT plays in generating resilience within a family.
