The purpose of the experiment was to determine the effects of 4-methyl-3-nitrobenzoic acid upon select fish species so as to properly identify which species would be most at risk in the event of habitat contamination. For experimentation, Beer Lambert’s Law and a spectrophotometer were used to obtain the solute descriptor values, which were then applied to the Abraham general solvation model alongside Dr. K. R. Hoover’s toxicity equations. After calculation of the final median mortality lethal concentrations, it was determined that the golden orfe fish species would suffer the most, and additional steps ought to be taken to ensure their conservation.
