With the ever-increasing integration of individuals with disabilities into society, it is critical that there is an understanding of what life looks like from a person’s perspective who has a disability. In order to have a strong understanding of the possible barriers of those with disabilities, we must try to put ourselves in the “shoes” of others. In ‘Seeing Through Their Eyes’, the photos highlight two keys ways that individuals with severe visual impairments see. When anyone loses the ability to use one of their senses, the others are heightened. While these individuals might not be able to see the world around them as we do, they do so in their own way. Through the use of their hands and/or a walking stick they are able to see with their sense of touch and the use of vibrations. My reasoning behind the choice of a photography-based portfolio comes from how I see the world. Because of the use of my art I am able to see and understand the world in depth as I pay attention to smaller details. Using photography, I cannot only allow people to see the world as I do, but with this portfolio specifically I can hopefully help people to see and understand that there is a different way to see.Poster:
