The Marketing and Reception of Modern Young Adult Literature
Abstract:
The prolongation of the modern book industry is under constant scrutiny due in part to the increasingly dynamic and alluring entertainment business. Television, video games, and social media are often cited as adversaries of reading for pleasure, especially in the case of adolescents. Within the past twenty years, however, young adult literature (YA) has become a prominent pastime for adolescents and adults alike. Arguably sparked by the popular Harry Potter series, YA literature is currently experiencing a golden age that has allowed reading literature marketed for children and young adults to be widely available and marketed towards all age (Cart). This study examines the multi-faceted characteristics of YA literature both in marketing and its reception.
