Scholars Day Full Research Paper Competition

In the Scholars Day Full Research Competition, undergraduate students at UNT submit a full research paper to present their methodologies, research, and its significance to a general audience. 

All UNT students are encouraged to participate and do not need to be members of the Honors College.

Award

Students who receive, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Full Research Paper Competition will receive a financial award. 1st Place receives $450, 2nd Place receives $350, and 3rd Place receives $250. A panel of judges selected by Dr. James Duban, the Associate Dean for Research and National Scholarships for TAMS and the Honors College, will judge the selections. The decision of the adjudicating panel is final.

Participation Guide

  • Papers must meet the requirements found at: https://journals.library.unt.edu/index.php/undergrad/about/submissions 
  • Full Research Papers must be submitted as .doc, .docx or .pdf files to upload to the application.
  • Following Scholars Day, the papers may be submitted for possible publication in UNT's electronic journal of undergraduate research, The North Texas Journal of Undergraduate Research.

Announcement of winners

  • The winners of the Full Research Paper competition will be announced at the Scholars Day reception on April 1st at 3:45 pm.
  • All presenters are invited to the poster presentations at Scholars Day on April 1st at 3:00 pm and the reception at 3:45 pm. Multiple raffles will be held starting at 3:00 pm. Raffle winners must be present to win.

URF Participants

While URF participants may choose to apply for an optional Scholars Day competition, the competitive submission alone does not fulfill the URF requirement that calls for a Scholars Day presentation application. Thus, URF participants who submit an optional competitive application must also submit an application for a Scholars Day Presentation (poster or oral presentation) by February 22nd, 2027 at 12:00 pm (noon) to fulfill the requirements of the URF.

Applications to present a Full Research Paper are due on February 22nd, 2027 at 12:00 pm (noon).
