Abstract:
Led by Dr. James Duban, this summer research course required students to undertake a comprehensive investigation of the publications of an individual research scientist to expand their knowledge of a particular field of study and inspire them to contribute to the field in the future. The research of Dr. Cicero, a psychology professor at UNT, concerns psychosis, specifically schizophrenia. The primary goal of his research is that of improving our ability to identify, treat, and prevent psychosis. In doing so, one must understand the various mechanisms that contribute to the development of psychosis. Such mechanisms include aberrant salience, self-concept, social anhedonia, and perceptual aberration/magical ideation.
