In every language, formulaic sequence is used because it helps to communicate effectively. Combined words that inform better information such as idioms (Needle in a haystack), collocation (Good Mourning), lexical bundles. Lexical bundles, the main topic of this research, express flexible or interchangeable meanings such as “I think of” and “in terms of”. Would it be inefficient to use non-formulaic sequences to communicate? So, this research analyzed the lexical bundle frequency between academic essays that have received a passing or failing grade. Lexical bundles will be categorized into discourse organizer, stance bundles, and referential expression.
