Abstract:
Extracurricular activities (ECAs; i.e., sports, music programs) are developmentally significant during childhood and adolescence. However, little research exists exploring ECAs for children in the foster care system. Due to the unique needs of children in foster care, participation in ECAs may provide opportunities to learn specific life skills that may increase resilience, both individually and within the family. The purpose of the proposed study is to explore participation in ECAs for children in the foster care system as well as foster parents’ perceptions of ECAs.
