Abstract:
Mankiyali is an endangered language primarily spoken in Danna, a small village in northern Pakistan. This poster offers a morphophonological analysis of the strategies used to form the plural forms of Mankiyali nouns. These words were collected by eliciting responses from native Mankiyali speakers. The data was organized and coded by grammatical gender and plurality. Preliminary analysis shows the following strategies: Ablaut in feminine nouns, default singular masculine suffix -a replaced by -i to form the plural, suffixation of -a in both masculine and feminine nouns, and lastly null suffix plural in both feminine and masculine.
