The PAD4 gene has already shown to have an effect on plant defense response to green peach aphid (GPA) infestation. We have identified the promoter region and likely sequences where transcription factors would bind in an effort to learn about the gene’s regulation. Our thesis is that the PAD4 region can be regulated along one of the identified sequences, and if so, that disrupting the sequence will prevent the PAD4 gene from responding to GPA infestation and reduce plant ability to resist infestation.
