Abstract:
In nature, plants use photosynthesis to convert solar into chemical energy. The process is synthetically mimicked via the use of donor-acceptor conjugates that are capable of electron or energy transfer. Functionalized Porphyrins are highly conjugated systems that are useful as electron donors. Porphyrins can also be metallated with most transition metals allowing for metal-ligand axial coordination. The possibility of metal-ligand coordination allows for the possibility of a donor-acceptor system to form with Fullerene acting as an electron acceptor.
