Dr. James DubanAbstract:
This summer, I studied the work of Dr. Edward Dzialowksi at the University of North Texas. His
lab has 3 main interests: the development of endothermy in avian species, the effect of hypoxia
on insects, and the closure of the avian ductus arteriosus. After studying several of his articles, I
discovered that many of his articles build off the findings of his other works. For example, his
studies on the effect of varying environmental conditions on developing ectotherms served as a
basis of contrast to determine physiological changes associated with the transition to
endothermy. This information helps to prove the claim that endothermy is associated with
certain developmental changes, as those changes are not found in ectotherms. Studying Dr.
Dzialowski’s work has helped me to pick up new knowledge of animal morphology and
development. But, I think most importantly, it taught me how to take learning into my own hands,
as I began to research what I didn’t understand within the articles themselves. During the first
week, I began building my vocabulary and knowledge of the topics, which helped me to
comprehend the following articles. Over the summer, I believe that I have developed an
inquisitive mindset, which will continue to help me throughout my career.Poster:
