This poster examines the term and practice of Xeriscaping, including outside references, how cities are zoning Xeriscape, and implementation in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metropolitan region. Xeriscaping uses the implementation of drought tolerant plants, mulch, and efficient irrigation methods in the natural environment to accent and complement the design features of the given site without detracting from property values. This helps water conservation effort in metropolitan regions that frequently experience drought conditions. Despite the economic and ecological benefits this landscaping practice offers, considerable variability dominates the DFW's ordinances, whether zoning related or real Xeriscape practices.
