Abstract: 
Our goal was to compare and contrast the / ʃ / acoustical characteristics between native English-speaking adults and children to native Japanese-speaking adults and children to better understand language acquisition and the variance that occurs within it. By using computer software for analysis of speech sounds, we were able to segment and measure the vowel and fricative characteristics of the word "shoe", which we then compiled and averaged to conduct a comparative analysis.
