Abstract:
As a lipophilic polymer membrane of herbaceous species, the waxy cuticle is the main gateway into a plant, and predators in higher trophic levels suffer from biomagnification. Luckily, the Abraham Model can be used to calculate various partition coefficients across semipermeable membranes, including the cuticles of a plant. Through systems equations and optimization of the standard deviation, the Excel Solver tool was operated to calculate the cuticle-to-water partition coefficients within a standard deviation of 0.23 log units. The solute descriptors were calculated to be: c = 0.0953, e = 0.8283, s = -0.8048, a = -0.2506, b = -3.612, and v = 3.432.
