Abstract:
The wearing of shawls is important in a variety of mostly non-western cultures and is often a way of celebrating one’s culture and history. shawls are often used for veiling or concealing oneself for religious or personal reasons, and take on a deeper cultural importance, often incorporating embroidery of various symbols representing spirituality, personality, and life’s meaning. This shawl-form wearable with e-textile celebrates its cultural backgrounds and creates a wider exposure to personalized space that is digitized. This digitized space is a method of communication between computers and humans that facilitates a stronger connection between humans and computers, opening a wider door of Internet of Things (IoT). This way, the wearable incorporates the origin and history of shawls to visually integrate its identity, and thus, it redefines the identity of shawls in cultural, social, religious, and gender backgrounds.
