Abstract:
Few studies have examined severity of insomnia, suiciduality, and dysphoria symptoms between undergraduates residing in the United States (US) and Mexico. This study seeks to examine cross-cultural differences in self-reported symptoms of depression between undergraduates from US (including a Hispanic American subsample) and Mexican universities using the English and Spanish version of the Inventory of Depression and Anxiety Symptoms (IDAS-II). It was determined that US undergraduates scored higher in insomnia and dysphoria subscales. There was no significance in suicidality. Future research should directly compare Mexican and Mexican American samples to represent acculturation, immigration status, and other culturally relevant factors.
