Abstract:
The ability to tune ground- state and excited-state properties in symmetrical and asymmetrical multimodular donor-acceptor (D-A) systems is creating interest for light energy harvesting applications. Starting from a triphenylamine-Isoindigo-triphenylamine (D-A-D) system, its bandgap and reductivity can be tuned towards a low-bandgap and low reduction potential by insertion of secondary acceptors, tetracyanobutadiene (TCBD) and dicyanoquinodimethane (DCNQ). This lower bandgap is observed by a wider electronic absorption shift towards the near-IR region. The lower reduction potential was observed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). It was found that insertion of two DCNQ moieties created the lowest bandgap and the best material for light energy harvesting.
