Abstract:
Like many other diseases, Heart Failure contains hereditary factors and is a global public health issue due to its high prevalence. Around 6.5 million adults in the United States are estimated to have heart failure, and it was a contributing cause of 1 in 8 deaths in 2017. A Genome-Wide Association Study(GWAS) was conducted to identify disease susceptible loci for Heart Failure. Quality control was done using PLINK, an open-source genome-wide association toolkit, designed for efficient large-scale analysis of data. A variety of tests such as the missingness test, heterozygosity test, identify-by-descent test, and the multidimensional scaling test were conducted to eliminate individuals whose conditions did not fit the criteria. After the completion of the quality control analysis, the data was graphed using RStudio to create visual models of the data, with the expected and observed p-values following a linear relationship, implying very little Type I error.
