Abstract: 
Smart home systems are revolutionizing the way people live. As our dependence on technology increases, we require a system that ensures that our digital privacy is not at risk. This project develops a smart home security system that continuously monitors the network of smart home systems to prevent network router attacks. By continuously monitoring packets, the system can create symbols (input data) and sentences (symbols that share features) that contain the messages being sent to the device. These sentences are fed into a finite state machine, a tool that identifies patterns between symbols. The finite state machine will use the sentences to detect abnormal activity amongst the messages.
