Abstract:
Psychoactive drugs have been present within human history for thousands of years, yet findings from existing drug research have been anything but congruent. Disheartening, indeed, are the gaps in our society’s understanding of the true behavioral and neuropharmacological impact of psychoactive drugs. This lack of comprehension has occasioned misinformation that has led to the sometimes unwarrantable stigmatization of psychoactive drugs; that stigma deters public interest and funding which is detrimental to progress in drug and neurological research. The stigma has likewise resulted in prejudicial legislation and agendas that place harsher penalties on minority groups for drug-related crimes.
