Abstract:
The human brain devotes significant resources to decision-making and creating and processing emotions. Current neuroscience considers emotions as part of the fight-or-flight system, suggesting that emotions exist to protect organisms from danger. However, Dr. Tam’s theory of emotion proposes that emotion helps the brain detect and correct errors. Specifically, Dr. Tam’s theory states that emotion reflects the differences between a model of the world inside one’s brain and the outside world. The theory suggests these disparities are “errors” that emotions minimize. Error-minimization is done via decision-making. This experiment aims to prove that emotions and decision-making are connected in this manner.
