Steven, a two time community college drop out, will discuss his unlikely journey into President Obama’s Administration. In what is sure to be a night of fun and frivolity, Steven will take us on a journey, explaining how a low ranking paper-pushing corporal became the 2012 Army Times Soldier of the Year, how he transitioned from uniform into the White House, and beyond.
Steven is a member of the Boeing Company and a 2015 graduate of UNT. He delivered the keynote speech for UNT’s 125th Birthday Gala and the keynote speech for UNT’s first University-wide commencement ceremony. He is an alumni of the Obama administration having served both at the White House and later at the Department of Energy. He began his career in the United States Army departing service as a Sergeant and having deployed once to East Africa. While in uniform, he was selected as the honor graduate from the French Marine Corps Desert Survival Course, selected as the distinguished leadership graduate from the US Army’s Warrior Leadership Course, and selected as the Soldier of the Year by the Army Times in 2012. He recently finished his masters degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from Johns Hopkins University in 2017.
