Choose the Honors Research Track

The Honors College Research Track is designed to prepare you for the rigors of academic research and make you more competitive for graduate and professional schools.

Mentoring from faculty

In the Research Track, you’ll connect with a faculty member who will mentor and direct you in an original research project. You may apply for a University Research Fellowship that will pay for your research expenses or tuition.

Presenting your research

The Honors College offers two ways to show your research to larger audiences. You may publish your project in the Eagle Feather, the college’s annual journal. You also may participate in University Scholars Day, held every spring. At Scholars Day, you’ll gain experience in presenting your research to a panel of judges and become prepared for attending a professional conference.

Qualifying for scholarships

Many Honors students in the Research Track have applied for and won Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships, Morris K. Udall Scholarships and other prestigious federally funded scholarships awarded to undergraduates doing original research. Many of these scholarships cover graduate school experiences. The staff of UNT’s Office for Nationally Competitive Scholarships will work with you to identify and apply for the scholarships.

"As a freshman, I wanted to do research, so I walked into the open door of a materials science professor to ask about getting involved. That professor took me straight to Dr. Young."
