Dean Cox serving pancakes

Dr. Gloria Cox, dean of the Honors College, serves pancakes to Sydney Taylor during the annual Honors Hall Pancake Supper. The Pancake Supper is one of many special events held throughout the year that make living in Honors Hall feel like home.

“I went to the Pancake Supper to socialize and, well, to get free food!”

"Events like the pancake Supper offer a chance to get to know other members of the Honors College and make you feel like you have a little slice of home here at UNT.

That's one of the best parts of being in the Honors College and living in Honors Hall — the environment is friendly and warm, and it's very easy to find a comfortable place to fit."

Opportunities to Excel

Outstanding academic ability may be the most obvious common denominator for Honors students, but you'll also discover new friends who share your values and interests. You'll be part of a close-knit and supportive group that enjoys spending time together, trading ideas and having fun.

Special activities just for Honors students include lunches with deans and faculty members; tickets to cultural events, including concerts and plays; community service opportunities; and a host of social and intellectual activities throughout the year.

Become the Person You Want to Be

Choose from 400 student organizations, including 98 academic groups and honor societies, as well as multicultural and political groups, recreational sports teams, fraternities and sororities.

Enjoy living in Denton, an exciting and culturally diverse city of about 122,000 people approximately 40 miles north of Dallas-Fort Worth. Denton is one of the nation's fastest growing cities and part of the nation's fourth largest metropolitan area.

Feel comfortable on a campus that has a nationally accredited university police department, a nighttime safe ride program and 71 emergency call boxes located throughout campus.

Make Yourself at Home at Honors Hall

Living in Honors Hall gives active members of the Honors College the opportunity to study together and build an academic community while enjoying social activities, too.

Honors Hall is designed with academically focused students in mind. Music practice rooms, study rooms, activity areas and lounges give residents a place to go no matter what their interest or goal.

Honors Hall amenities include:

  • Private bedrooms with shared living space
  • Full kitchen

Scholar-in-Residence

Eric Ligon

As one of its many unique features, Honors Hall houses a scholar-in-residence.

This faculty member connects with residents by teaching and creating learning experiences outside of the classroom.

Eric Ligon, 2012-13 scholar-in-residence, is an associate dean and Distinguished University Professor in the College of Visual Arts and Design.
